Bathroom Remodel
Cost and Pricing Guide
You're thinking about a bathroom renovation for your home and exactly what that entails. This pricing guide is made to help inform and empower you with knowledge for your journey.
-
This pricing guide is primarily made as a pricing reference for Turnkey bathroom remodels in New Castle County, Delaware, and surrounding areas. Prices will vary depending on location, company, and build style of your home. This is simply a guide and does not represent or warrant any pricing for your specific project.
-
Turnkey is defined as a comprehensive, full-service solution where a contractor handles every aspect of the renovation from start to finish, allowing clients to simply “turn the key” and move in.
Turnkey remodels have all the pricing included for the entire project, which includes finish materials, building materials, labor, subcontractors, supervision/organization, design & planning, and cleanup & debris removal.
This pricing guide aims to provide you with a true representation of the full cost of a bathroom remodel by providing the turnkey price ranges.

Bathrooms are arguably the most complex room in the house per square foot. The amount of skill and expertise required to make a bathroom function properly, last a long time, and look great is much more complicated than any other part of the house.
Bathrooms have the most complex plumbing, waterproofing requirements, moisture control, space constraints, and get a lot of wear and tear from being used multiple times a day.
Bathrooms are confined spaces and, when doing a renovation, require multiple skilled people to work harmoniously very close together.
For these reasons, bathroom remodeling can be one of the most expensive per square foot.
Categorizing the size of the bathroom so we can price
At Allura Bath & Kitchen, we classify bathrooms into 3 categories:
Powder room
Hall Bath
Primary Bath
Powder rooms are a shared bathroom, usually on the first floor near common areas like living rooms and kitchens. They have a toilet and vanity, but do not include a shower/tub. Powder rooms are usually around 3’ wide x 6-7' long or about 25-35 square feet.
Powder room renovations you can expect to cost between $8,000 and $20,000 for a full turnkey remodel.
Hall Baths are shared bathrooms that are generally open to a common hallway (hence the name “hall bath”). I would throw Jack & Jill baths into this size category most times. Hall baths typically have a single vanity, toilet, and a 60x30 tub/shower. A common size for a hall bath is 9’ x 5’ or about 45 square feet.
Hall bath renovations you can expect to cost between 20,000 and 50,000 for a full turnkey remodel
Primary baths are accessed from the Primary bedroom and are private to that bedroom. They tend to have double vanities, a toilet or separate toilet room, a standalone shower, and a separate tub. Primary baths are typically larger than hall baths and usually in the range of around 10’ x 10’ or between 75-125 SF on average.
Primary bath renovations you can expect to cost between 35,000 and 80,000 for a full turnkey remodel.
There are exceptions to every categorization. Primary baths can be set up very similarly in size and finish to some hall baths and vice versa. Don't get too hung up on the location or name of the bathroom, but instead on the size and the features of the bathroom, as these will dictate price more than the location or name.
How does the “Scope of work”
affect the Bathroom price?
Scope of work is defined as a project's specific tasks and deliverables, or more simply, what IS and IS NOT included in the remodeling Agreement signed between you (buyer) and the contractor you choose.
Let's group scope of work into 3 distinct categories
Essentials (replace or renew)
Standard (reinvigorate)
Total transformation (reimagine)
-
You basically want to take out the old and replace it with new in the existing locations. This is an extremely cost-effective method of remodeling and one that has some of the best return on investment for your home.
Essential scope of work would roughly include:
Demo & Labor
Supply & install new vanity
Supply & install new premade vanity top
Supply & install new faucet
Supply & install new sink
Save and reuse existing valves
Supply & install new fiberglass tub/shower or Onyx shower kit
Supply & install new accessories
Supply & install new toilet
Touch up paint
The key point of an essentials scope of work is that you keep the existing plumbing, HVAC, and electrical locations where they are because those are main drivers of price when doing a bathroom. By leaving the mechanicals where they are, we don't have to remove drywall, remove the floor, paint, or re-trim the entire place. This all adds up to lots of cost savings while still getting a total transformation.
-
This type of project scope is great if you want to change some things up and make your bathroom more functional but also don't want to go wild with it. This is a great place to start.
Standard scope of work would include everything in “Essential” with the addition of the following:
Supply & install LVT flooring
Supply & Install Paint
Minimal electrical (move a receptacle, add a second vanity light, replace a bath fan)
Minimal plumbing (new valves under sink, new fridge water line, adjusting drain for sink within 3’ of existing)
Upgrade shower to Onyx shower kit OR custom tile work
Semi - frameless glass door instead of a curtain
Tub-to-shower conversion
-
This is a project where you want to change pretty much everything in your bathroom. This includes things like removing/adding walls, changing the shower layout, moving any plumbing anywhere else, especially a toilet.
The reimagined scope of Work included everything in “essential” and “standard,” with the addition of the following:
Tile floor instead of LV (“Laminated Vinyl”)
Moderate electrical (recessed lights, add/move outlets, heated floor, more bath fans, heated towel bars)
Moderate plumbing (relocating/adding any plumbing to a different area, Bidets)
Moderate HVAC (Venting bath fans, moving supplies)
Moderate structural / layout changes (widening openings, repairing structure, adding/removing walls, replacing windows/doors, built-in tubs)
Tower cabinets with crown on vanity
Tile showers with complex/large niches & benches
Linear drains & zero-entry showers
Custom frameless glass enclosures
Multiple shower heads, steam showers
Wet rooms, saunas
Specialty lighting, trim work, rare tile work
Here is a narrower price range for your bath remodel using both size and desired scope of work:
| Essentials | Standard | Reimagined
Powder Room | $8,000 – $11,000 | $11,000 – $15,000 | $15,000 – $20,000
Hall Bath | $20,000 – $30,000 | $30,000 – $40,000 | $40,000 – $50,000
Primary Bath | $35,000 – $50,000 | $50,000 – $65,000 | $65,000 – $80,000
** Side note: There really is no upper limit on what you can spend on anything in life, including renovations.
How do selections impact the price
of your kitchen project?
Selections are defined as the specific materials and finishes you choose for the project.
Selections play a major role in the cost of any remodeling project. Bathroom selections really impact pricing when talking about finish materials and comfort upgrades.
-
Selections as:
Cost-effective $– The lowest-priced option for the function the selection provides
Function Upgrade $$ – This option is the one that generally costs more but is designed to provide that function better for longer
Design Upgrade $$$– This option is where you add that aesthetic design element to the original function.
Cost effective | Function upgrade | Design upgrade
Curtain rod | Semi frameless glass door | Custom frameless glass
LVT plank Floor | Glue down/tile look LVT | Tile
12 x 24 tile floor | Small/Large format tile | Heated tile floor

Selections are able to move you up and down the pricing chart above.

Yes, absolutely, this is something that can and does get done routinely. You can certainly do a new vanity and top without changing the entire bathroom. Or do just a shower replacement without changing the vanity. Heck, you can just replace a couple of fixtures and paint the bathroom.
And that pricing will be less than the essentials range for the bathrooms in question.

When talking about cost for certain selections, the main question we receive from homeowners is, “How will the cost affect the performance?” Homeowners don't want to go with a lower-priced product because they don't want to lose the level of performance for the material they are expecting.
The answer is yes; price absolutely influences performance. However, the amount of performance difference between prices is what matters and is too much to discuss here. This is crucial, so we wrote an article where you can learn more here.
